Unable to import calendar

I have a Nexus 7 just loaded with google calendar. There is no way to import a calendar. The help suggest a method ie go to Other Calendars etc. but this is only available on the desktop version not the tablet version. Is there any solution please??

Re: Unable to import calendar

Welcome to Android Central! The Google Calendar app isn't as fully functional as the web interface, just as the Gmail app isn't as fully functional as its web counterpart. I think you just have to use the web Calendar for that function. You could try accessing the Calendar site using the mobile Chrome browser and requesting the desktop site, but this might be slow or clunky.

Re: Unable to import calendar

If you connect to another calendar using the website, your app should show that other calendar when it syncs.

Re: Unable to import calendar

Thanks for that info, it seems I can't use it for what I want. Do you know if there is any app that will work, I just want a stand alone calendar which I can enter events in and look at them. I can then hand transfer them from my main calendar which is stand alone on my desktop

Re: Unable to import calendar

Let's back up a little here. What exactly do you mean by importing a calendar? You can easily enter events in the Google Calendar app, and those events will sync across devices. So you'd immediately see those events if you brought up Google Calendar in your computer browser.

Re: Unable to import calendar

I use a Sunbird calendar on my desktop and just want to import the events into the google calendar on my Nexus but on the nexus the option to import calendars does not appear. Also on the Nexus when I press the + button I get a screen which says "No calendars have been synchronised..."
I think I have found a solution which is to 'snip' the months events on the desktop and then transfer the picture to my Nexus but that is a bit difficult to read. Especially today as I foolishly agreed to an android update which has changed the appearance of everything and made the pictures even more difficult to see, why do they change things on these updates it drives me mad!!!!!!

Re: Unable to import calendar

You can set up a Google calendar, import your existing Sunbird calendar entries by first exporting as an ICS file from Sunbird and then importing that file into Google calendar. Then you can configure Sunbird to directly access your Google calendar. This will keep your desktop and mobile devices synced to the Google calendar. See here for Sunbird configuration instructions:

Re: Unable to import calendar

It would be much easier if you transition everything to Google Calendar on your computer as well as your phone. This is the case for any platform--it's always easier to stick with one ecosystem, if you can. It will be much better integrated that way. But otherwise, follow physioprof's recommendation.

Re: Unable to import calendar

I used to use Sunbird, and the Google Calendar Web client is just better, anyway. So B. Diddy's advice is good.

Re: Unable to import calendar

I know how to export the calendar from Sunbird. BUT on Google calendar that I run on my Nexus 7 tablet there is no facility to import a calendar, that option is just not there. I don't want to 'sync' anything I just want to copy the entries from one calendar to another. This appears not to be possible.

Re: Unable to import calendar

You need to import the exported Sunbird calendar using the Google Calendar Web client from a browser, not the Google Calendar Android app.

Re: Unable to import calendar

Thanks very much for the information. It confirms what I thought. I certainly don't want to put any private information like this on the web so I will content myself with clipping an image of my existing calendar and putting the picture on my tablet.
Thanks
