Why am I unable to install updates?

Unable to install updates

Nexus 5, unrooted with Lollipop 5.1
K9 mail app (V5.002) is my default mail client.

When install the most recent updates (V5.003/5.004) of K9 the following error msg pops up: "Unknown error code during application install '-505'". I posted the problem in K9 mail forum in Google groups, the developer replied:

"A quick Google search suggests that you might have an app installed that defines the same permission as K-9 Mail defines. On Lollipop the system prevents the second app that defines a permission from being installed.
There's nothing we can do about this. Uninstall the other app (check the Android system log [keyword: logcat] to find out which) and tell its authors to not define K-9 Mail's permission."

Unfortunately I don't know how to "check the Android system log". Then i search Google, found and install an app known as "aLogcat". After open it no log shows up.

What happens if you completely uninstall K-9, then try installing it again? Do you get the same error?

I haven't done this, because I don't want to set up K9 against from the very beginning. This is a good suggestion, I will try it later after I noted down all the settings for K9.

What happens if you completely uninstall K-9, then try installing it again? Do you get the same error?

No, it doesn't work!!
I exported the settings, uninstalled K9 and reinstall it from google play store, got the same error. Furthermore same error pops up even I install k9 from safe mode.

Any other suggestions, thank you!

Now I can't even reinstall the older version of K9 from the backup APK, got "X app not installed" error."

At this point, you may have to uninstall apps one by one, and then keep trying to reinstall K-9. When you're able to install K-9, then the last app you uninstalled is the culprit.

Thanks, it should be a painful task!

Now I prefer to switch to another email app, no more K9. l still wonder why installation of K9 failed even on safe mode which would not load any downloaded apps besides the stock ones.
