Why Android?

Hey all

First off sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

Basically I am thinking of getting a android/google phone and I am a iPhone user now. I use all Google products. Why android? What separates it from the other OS's? I am not really tech savvy so don't plan on doing any rooting or modifying. Will I get better use out of google products or should I just stay iPhone as there google apps are not bad.

Ps a family member has a droid pro. Should I give that a try or is it too old to try?

Honestly there's too much different to accurately list.
I'd say get a Nexus 4 - it's reasonably priced & will give you the best representation of pure Android.

In the most basic sense, both Android and iOS will accomplish nearly all the same tasks, just in a different manner.

You didn't give us much to go off, but as the prior poster mentioned, give the Nexus 4 a try. The other two high end devices I'd consider are the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4.

Try 'em all, find something you like.

Android also offers more customization options than iPhone.

More customizable, have more control over the phone.

More options of what phone to get. Not stuck with one handset to choose from.

Having the latest features, not being held back by Apple choosing what you should or shouldn't have in your phone.

Another reason. Android isn't a glorified app drawer like the iphone is. If you think about it, that is what the iphone is. Just one big app drawer.

What separates it from the others is the customization you can do to an Android device. Other than that it's pretty much the same. You've got apps, the internet, media, etc.

The Droid Pro will probably not be enjoyable to try, it's old and running very outdated software. What iPhone do you currently have? You can probably find a Galaxy S3 to try out on the cheap.

What sold me to Android was the openness, versatility, efficiency and simplicity.

I know a lot of folks talk about how Android is harder to use but I find that to be a false statement. They are just as easy, Android just has more flexibility...which can cause some to be confused.

I would not recommend any device below ice cream sandwich Android 4.0. I don't know what the pro is. It sounds like you're on Verizon ids recommend the S4 it's a great phone.

there are a Lot of iPhone users on here, myself included that are here doing the same thing you are. researching android and Why android.
Do you have an upgrade available? If so, keep your iphone and go to the store and grab the newest device you can. Read Android Central for info and questions.
Play with the new device for 12 days. If you don't like it, you have a 14 day return policy ($35 restock fee) but really, $35 isn't bad if you think of it as a rental fee.
At the end, you know if its good for you or not and you are out $35 bucks. Thats not a bad deal really.
Try any one of the new top devices, S4, HTC One, Sony ZL, LG optimus Pro/G etc
I will get my first android devices next week. I'm excited to try it. Not sure if it can replace my iphone, but I won't know if I don't try.

The reason you will want the newest device possible is because you need 4.1 or 4.2 operating system (newest OS, Jelly Bean)

I'm in the same boat. I've got an iphone 4 I've had for 27 months. It's been flawless. That said, I don't really want to pay the apple premium any more. I should be able to get a SG3 for free on contract soon and having the abiliy to put a SD card in it for more memory is a a big plus. My phone is my primary music device and 16g is not enough. As others have said, Andriod phones have a lot more flexibilty and that has huge appeal. One thing I worry about is OS updates but it seems those are coming to Andriod more often these days if you stick with more flagship devices. The other part is that I'd simply like to try it out and am willing to commit a couple years to it. I just hope my new phone works as well and is a durable as my iphone as been. my 2 cents.....

android means free and open .you control the phone and do what you want do ,
but ios or wp8 means they told you what you would do,
