Why are my apps not working by changing by changing from S4 to S4 mini?!

[Android Central Question]

So, S4 to S4 mini, same sim card.

Some apps on google play are saying 'your device isn't compatible with this version' and my university app says 'an irrecoverable error has occurred'.

After looking online I tried clearing caches, clearing data, force stops, reboots and uninstall/reinstall of apps (including google play, play services, and play framework - nightmare to reinstall!)

Nothing has worked

Android version is 4.4.2 KitKat

Have you verified that the apps in question ARE compatible with that OS version? Some developers have moved on and the latest versions of their apps do not support such an old OS.
