Why are you choosing Galaxy S5?

At the end if the day, camera, removable battery and likely more accessories won for me.

Home button lover here too. :-)

I am on the fence about returning my M8, so I decided to make a list of my pros for each device:

M8: Speaker quality and loudness (makes the phone a bit too tall for me but not a deal breaker), build of phone (makes it heavier though), dot view case (not a pro anymore - I hated the thing), dual camera (a bit gimmicky and having the Evo 3D I don't think it is a feature I will use), beautiful screen, BlinkFeed with Fitbit integration
S5: Split screen (will I actually use this feature or is this a gimmick that no one uses?), home button (coming from an iPhone, the home button becomes second nature to use and I like that it initiates voice commands, home screen, and screen wakeup), great camera and pic quality, water resistance (will this affect the speaker quality or loudness?), weighs less than the M8, overall size is smaller than the M8 without compromizing screen quality, replaceable battery (am I the only one who ruins their batteries because I plug them in all the time?), fingerprint scanner (I think this will be cool as long as it works properly...)

Anyway, there it is. I rank my speaker quality higher than other stuff so truly this is a personal decision that I will have to make. If the speaker on the S5 performs relatively well then I think I'll pull the trigger and return the HTC for it...

s3 Currently. Mainly because I've been happy with the Galaxy series and the camera. I'm intrigued by the LG G3 and the Sony Xperia Z2 but without any hard and fast specs and details about it's Verizon availability, i'll probably just stick with the S5. My wife cracked the screen on her S3 (and we stupidly got it repaired and it didn't hold up), so don't want to wait too much longer before upgrading. the BOGO pre-order deal from Verizon is the clincher.

Yes, it's a gimmick. I use it every once in a blue moon, like when I want to read a text while watching a TV show. Still has some cool factor though around my iPhone friends.

Re: Why are you choosing Galaxy S5 ?

I'm upgrading from a iPhone 4S.

So, for me it's:

1.5" bigger screen
1080p resolution (vs. some 640P Retina Display thing)
16MP camera (vs. an 8MP camera)
Quad-core CPU (vs. Dual-Core)
2GB DDR3-Ram (vs. 500MB)
Download Booster
WAY more customization with the UI
I prefer the Google ecosystem over the iOS ecosystem
Download Booster

for starters... It's a pretty HUGE upgrade for me, personally. But I have an old phone - I have a legit reason to upgrade. I'm really excited to get it next week!

I actually like TW underneath Nova launcher, call me crazy.
New Camera looks sweet.

If you're crazy than I'm crazy too! :D

I originally looked for launchers because Google decided not to implement the scolling wallpaper on the home screen after Gingerbread (if I'm not mistaken). I haven't looked back since..

I currently own the S3 and I'm looking forward to this upgrade. My wife upgraded from a BB9900 to a S4 couple of months ago, so I'm jealous :)

My Nexus 5 is great but the camera is terrible. This is the main reason for me getting the S5. Im also a phone ***** so after the S5 if the Note 4 or iPhone 6 are significantly better i'll be moving over to one of those.

Because it's in (distant) second to the Xperia Z2?

Honestly, I'm going to wait a couple more weeks to see if anything new is learned of the Z2 coming to Verizon. Bigger battery, forward facing speakers, better screen, better camera, 50% more RAM, and completely waterproof...that seems worth tolerating my dying S3 for a little bit longer. However if it really doesn't look like it's going to happen, I guess I'll take the S5 over the M8 due to its better camera, replaceable battery, and water resistance, though the form factor and speakers of the M8 are also attractive. I couldn't care less about a fingerprint scanner or heart rate monitor.

I am a bit suspicious about the waterproofing... ok if it rains the phone will not be damaged, but is it really possible to use the phone under the water at the swimming pool?

The S5 is IP67, which means "dust tight" or complete protection against dust (it will not enter phone), and also immersion in water up to 1m (at the bottom of the phone, 15 cm at the top) for up to 30 minutes. Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to taking it in the pool, but immersion should be brief and shallow (e.g. to get an underwater selfie). Don't drop it! lol

By contrast, the Z2 is IP58, which means "dust protected", or it may enter the phone, but it will not degrade operation of the device, and also immersion in water >1 meter, typically tested as continuous immersion in 3 meters of water. This you could shoot near surface underwater video with, but I probably wouldn't test the ~10' limit.

Okay, I'll bite. How do you know the Z2 has a better screen and better camera? Even with a larger battery capacity, how do you know the battery life is better? These three aspects have been reported as outstanding for the S5 so far. If you prefer the other features of the Z2, it's obviously very reasonable to wait to see about its availability and real world performance compared to other devices. But from what I have been reading so far, people who have approached the S5 with an open mind have come away impressed.

Like everyone else here, I'm a phone nut. I've never owned a galaxy phone before. This will be the first time. New experience. Getting the Gear 2 also. All in.

Re: Why are you choosing Galaxy S5 ?

I am coming to the S5 from my iPhone 5S. I am still going to hold on to it though because in my past experience I tend to jump to Android and then find some things about the phone that I do not like and then I am stuck in having to take a loss to go back to iOS. I really like the look of the S5 and that blue color is beautiful looking. I have noticed that over the years Android is getting better and better and my list of things that I do not like about it is getting smaller and smaller. And with Samsung toning down Touchwiz, I am looking forward to seeing everything put together.

Also, I LOVE watches (I have close to 80). I have a Pebble watch which I use a few times a week but I really dislike it. Pebble is in trouble.

I cannot wait until the Moto360 comes out and the Gear 2 looks to be greatly improved. I had a friend who had the Gear 1 and I liked it but it very much felt like a beta product so I held off on the Android jump until now.
