Why aren't all of my Gmail contact photos showing up?

[HTC One M8] Not all Gmail contact photos show up.

I use Htc one m8 and a Google nexus 7. I store my contacts on gmail. My question is that all my contact photos show up on my computer and Nexus but some photos do not show on my HTC. The same images are missing from my wife's HTC. These are not large images, some just clipart. Why won't all my images show up?

Welcome to Android Central! What happens if you use Google Contacts on the web to delete the contact photo, then add it back again? Then wait for your People app to sync again.

That appears to work. I guess you can't do everything on mobile.

No still does not work. Some photos I put in on the web, on my laptop, show up on my HTC and not my wife's. Some are the opposite. All photos show up on my tablet.

Ok you say some show and some don't. Let's try to figure out what the ones that don't have in common, that's likely the key to why they do or do not show. You're managing at least some of these contacts on line, so are any of the ones that don't show pics Google contacts? Have you backed them up with an app or with sync? If you go into your people app in the upper left hand corner it says phonebook, under mine it says multiple sources. If you touch that you'll see all the sources of your contacts. Either turn them off one by one until you find the one that turns off the contacts with no pics or turns most of them off, or turn them all off and turn them on one by one until you find it. Then we'll know the source of the contacts and that could tell us everything.

Good idea. Also, is your wife's M8 also logged into the same Google account as yours?

These are all good thoughts. I recently got a new phone so I re-setup all my accounts. The HTC is also new. My contacts are set to my Google contact file only. This is true on both phones. I do not have any other source turned on. It is setup the same on my Google nexus 7 and all the images show up there.

I have to play devil's advocate to be sure we're on the right track. When you open your people app under phonebook it only says Google? Your wife's Google account isn't syncd to your phone, and there are no contacts being displayed for numbers saved to your phone or SIM card, correct? One Google account sync'd to 3 devices?

So what could be different about those contacts from device to device.

Are there any that have no pic in all three locations? Some that only have a pic on the tab and not either of the other?

Devil away. Only my Google account. The number of contacts is the same as well. All the photos show up on my tablet and on the web. On the two phones most of the photos show but some are missing on one phone and not the other, some the opposite, some on both. I am sure it is a phone setting somewhere. Later today I am going to delete all the offending photos on the web and reinstall to see what that does. I will let you know the result.

Ok, I went through and deleted all the photos in the web app that did not show up on the phones and reinstalled them. This did not work before but appears to have worked now unless the photos disappear later. The photos on my wife's phone are still a little screwy but I think this is because her phone is combining some contacts. I will figure this out another day.

Found a big part of the problem was that the M8s were automatically combining contacts which played hell with the photos. The de-linking process is different on the HTC so once I figured that out it was fixed. Thanks for all the help everyone.
