Why aren't I receiving Gmail push notifications on the Galaxy S6?

When you had wifi off, did you get notifications when you were actively using the phone? I don't have a problem getting notifications when using the phone, it is only when i believe the phone goes into deep sleep the notifications stop working until you wake the phone up

Some additional info, all my tests have been with my phone on the wireless charger, today however i left the phone off the charger and let it sit idle and the phone actually got some of the notifications. There must be some flag that gets set when the phone is charging.

Update, i called samsung and had them create a ticket, the rep said they have not heard of this issue at all. Long story short if they come up with a fix it will be after 5.1.1 which carriers like ATT have not pushed out and that means it could be a year or longer before it is resolved. They do not work directly with end customers so we are out of luck basically. Frankly for me this is deal breaker and I might be returning my phone and going back to blackberry.

For those still following this. I did a factory reset, uploaded att update, no other changes but setup google account and updated gmail client and the problem continues. While the phone is being charged and it is unused for 10+ mins, no email notifications at all until you wake the phone up.

Try uninstalling Facebook. Someone told me that the Facebook app was causing this problem. Just what I heard.

Could you do me a favor and do this test and report back.

If there are others who can also test this i would appreciate it. I have contacted samsung and they created a ticket but no way to know when if it will be resolved.

Test condition:
1. Charge phone, wired or wireless, only turn on Mobile network, no wifi!!!
2. Leave the phone untouched and idle for 10+ mins
3. during this time no txt or phone calls otherwise it will reset the sleep flag
4. after 10+ mins of no activity send yourself emails from a desktop or another phone. You should in theory get notifications but I'm willing to be you will not.

Thanks

Yes, the new S6 I got works just fine getting the push notifications. It receives them all night long (24 Hours a day) without being touched at all.
Make sure when you set up the new phone to choose "Set Up as a New Device" and sign into your Gmail and Samsung accounts during the setup. Don't skip these steps. I'm on S6 number 3 and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

When you get these notifications you have it charged or uncharged? b/c if i leave it off the charger it works fine, this condition happens when only on mobile network and phone being charged.

thanks

I went ahead and got a completely new phone and this one is doing the same exact thing. Both are from Costco, different batches and they come directly from Samsung according to the manager. I'm at a loss here

I'm not saying that this is the cause, knowing that you have mentioned tons of times that this is just when using Data and not Wifi, but just wondering, did you turn off the Smart network option? if not, go to Wifi settings, click More and in Smart network switch, turn it off, while in there go to advanced and turn off Always Allow scanning.

Do that, turn it off, press power, Volume up, and home buttons until you see the Android robot and it say that it's updating, then when it finishes in that Recovery menu, do a Wipe Cache partition and reboot, try again to see if something changes.

I've wiped cache, restored to factory many times. Also with the wifi off the scanning is not enabled so it wouldn't make a difference. The problem is not related to wifi being enabled, it is related to just using the mobile network, but yes it is turned off anyway b/c i don't need it scanning when i have wifi on.

No im on ATT, my friend who is on verizon, she has a 32gig white edge and it works fine. Most of the people I have seen who have had issues is with ATT making me believe what ever they put in their phones is causing this issue. I notified ATT and they are looking into it.

How about yourself?

Scanning always available if on works even with wifi off, that's exactly the reason behind that feature.

What about Smart Network, did you turn it off also? If you have any of those on, turn both off and do the Wipe cache partition like I mentioned above, at this point you won't lose anything by doing this, but may have a lot to gain.

Already done that and it made no difference.

What color is your phone and how many gigs. I'm on the second black 64gig and I'm thinking maybe the batch they have here is bad but they get new ones all the time.
