Why aren't photos taken on the phone visible while connecting to the Laptop?

Photos taken on the phone not visible while connecting to the Laptop

I have a Samsung Galaxy E7. The phone's display crashed on 20th October 2015. Wherever I have enquired for repair, they say all my data will be lost. So I wanted to save all my photos and music before giving it for repair. Luckily the data on the phone is accessible once I connect to the laptop through the USB. However, when I connect it to the laptop with a USB, in the DCIM Folder , I'm unable to view the photos taken from the camera, between 1st October & 20th October.
Can somebody please suggest in which folder I can find the photos.

I believe if the phone is not unlocked which im assuming its locked photos wont be accesible
