Android Central Question

It's now May 29th and we're still on the February 1st security patch.

Samsung hasn't always been the best when it comes to these updates, and for models in the US, truth be told, they focus on carrier versions.

They could easily make the patches for factory unlocked devices available through the Smart Switch software. For some reason they won't, which leads me to think that they made a deal with the carriers that unlocked devices wouldn't get updates before the carrier versions. If that's correct it's pretty shady. I totally regret getting the S9. It's a nice phone and all, but without security updates it's a deal breaker. I'd advise anyone in the US or Canada thinking of a galaxy S or Note device to consider something else. Samsung can't even bother to get their latest flagship updated over here. The risk just isn't worth it in today's digital environment. The carriers deserve an equal amount of derision here, but ultimately it's Samsung's hardware and responsibility. The mobile business model needs to change in the US, badly.
