My phone gave me the message that the App needed to be updated. I attempted to do that but it failed. I then uninstalled the App and have been trying to re-install it.

go to Settings> Applications, and seek Play Store All and Framework for services. In both applications you will press the following buttons: Force stop, Clear Data, Clear Cache.
Finally reboot your device, and if all goes well, now you should have no problems.
Note: If you have not had results; go to accounts and delete your Google account; make sure the date and time in your device are correct; and finally restart your device.
