Why can't I access my photos from my Nexus 4 which has been upgraded to 5.1?

Cannot access my photos from Nexus 4 which has been upgraded to 5.1

Hi. I upgraded to 5.1 about a month ago. Today, is the first time since the upgrade that I am trying to access my photos. I plugged in the USB to my laptop but it doesn't show up in Internet Explorer.
