why can't I completely Uninstall Facebook?

So, I heard that if you Uninstall facebook, it would increase battery life. I'm rarely on there more than twice a day, so I figured why not? I go to Uninstall the application, like normal. Once I click it, it doesn't say anything about uninstalling, says something about not updating anymore. Wtf? So I did it anyway to see. Other apps, when I Uninstall them, if I want to use it again I have to reinstall. No, not fb. It says update. Also I could not get rid of the app off my phone, with out hiding it.

Is fb now baked into phones?

Unfortunately some Samsung devices come with Facebook preinstalled so it's treated as a system app. If that's your case the only option is to disable the app in settings - apps - all.

You don't have to disable it. If you don't log in to it then it does not run. If you do want to use Facebook. Just create a short cut to the Facebook Web page and use that instead.

I uninstalled the updates in the application manager for Facebook. I also deleted fb messenger. Battery life is now back to normal. Both apps were unbelievable battery hogs.

Disable feature is useless. Facebook can still track all your stuff in the background. It still runs in the background even though it is disable. They did not allow users to uninstall for a reason. The uninstall option was there previously but they changed it to disable which is pretty much useless.

Yes. I've never used it, and didn't even know it was on the phone until I saw that it had updated itself! All I could do was "disable" it. But it is still supposedly using memory and accessing memory at a fairly high rate.

Facebook is largely owned by the same largest shareholder firms that also own the largest "competing" tech firms, including Apple, Microsoft, Twitter, Netflix, Google (developer of Android OS), and other of the largest tech firms (source = morningstar.com).

Even Samsung (and other of the largest manufacturers) are largely owned by the same largest firms.

Apps from many of these companies are pre-installed and built in because they're all part of the same larger mega-corporate family. They all exist to drive user data, and thus more revenue to their companies, whom drive profit back to these shareholder owners.
Where many people are led to believe companies like Google and Facebook (and/or Apple for that matter) are competitiros, they are friendly "competitors".
They "compete" only in the sense of whom can drive the most profit back to their largest shareholder owners.

Thus they usually can't be uninstalled (thru the OS iteself), only "disabled".
Be sure that even when they're "disabled" they're still transmitting use data. Thus the reason they can't be uninstalled (thru the OS itself).
This is why software/apps like Android OS are free. They make their money on the backend.

Well said - it's all about data harvesting and selling that (our) data. FB, I assume, pays Samsung to permanently install their app.

But even if you don't log in, the app itself (354MB) and the supporting apps, like FB App Manager (90.1MB) still use phone/battery resources with updates, for example. Better to disable all FB apps to conserve your phone's resources.

Definitely disable FB. Also a bit off-topic but the weather apps, 1weather, accuweather all that stuff that have nice looking home widgets are supposedly data miners also. Best to use Google's built-in weather app, you can add a shortcut/widget for it to the home screen.

I don't know about Data Havesting, but yes, Facebook pays Samsung, HTC, and many other smartphone manufacturers to permanently install Facebook.

Personally I did DISABLE the Facebook App, but my stock Samsung Note 5 does not allow me to Disable Facebook App Manager and Facebook App Installer.
