Why can't I connect to my school wifi anymore stuck at Obtaining IP address..?

When devices connect to any of my wifi connections at work it is logged and they fall under all of my firewall and antivirus policies. If there are any issues with the device, whether its virus alert, malware alert, web filtering, or any other security issue I block that devices MAC address. At that point there is no more connecting to my networks with that device. Its a common practice in IT. Perhaps that has happened to you.

Well, did you upgrade to 5.01?

I find that since I upgraded, I'm getting less reliable connections to both wi-fi AND mobile networks (in the sense of not switching as quickly automatically--I have to sometimes turn it off and then back on). For the first time in Europe, I was unable to connect to a strong network and kept getting "unable to obtain IP address" errors. I figured the hotel was weird. The next place I was at, in a different country no less, another strong signal. I measured it--fasted wifi of the trip. And yet it frequently had moments when it took forever to load things. Despite a strong signal, it seemed to cut in and out.

Now home again, I see that it is pretty reliable on my home network (although sometimes I'm having that problem when I switch to 4g), but it certainly caused havoc through most of Europe, including places I'd successfully been before.

Have you tried someone else's login to eliminate your login profile?

Just few simple step will solve the problem.. 3 of my mobile phone connected to the same wifi. All these 3 phone 'Failed Obtaining... '. Only my laptop can connect to the wifi. Googling for solutions.. so many method, reset phone, reset modem, reset router.. all doesnt work on me.. ( Galaxy Note 4 ). After playing some trick.. it finally work. Just simple

Had the same: it works at home and other places but the work - so it must be something with work WiFi.
No option to set a static IP either.

I went in WiFI settings (Settings\WiFi\Advanced\WiFi Frequency band) and noticed that WiFi band was set on Automatic - other options 5GHz, 2.4Ghz.

I set it to 2.4GHz and it started working fine, slower but it works!

I guess they have cheap routers here that cannot hold 5GHz

Try it

I usually have the same problem with my tablet... i experimented a little bit and when i connect to my friends hotpots or another WiFi option it seems to connect somehow. honestly i don't know what the problem is, at my high school it seems to be effecting a lot of people. And yes i have tried all the restarting methods it just seems to be different with most devices, honestly though why does there have to be this problem:'(

I had this problem, with the public WiFi at the hospital for special surgery in Manhattan, on my Android phone, a Samsung galaxy note 4.

I fixed it, after reading through a few forum threads, by finding out the IP address of the router and a device logged into the network (from a friend whose phone was working fine with the Wifi) and then checking "static" under the advanced network options in the Wifi settings. I entered the address of the router under "gateway" and an address similar to the device address of my friend's phone, but one digit greater (in the last set of digits, like if his was 192.168.1.147, I made mine 192.168.1.148). Then I connected and it worked fine.

The problem appears to be with the DHCP client in the phone's Android OS - which is the latest version Verizon has given us ( 6.0.1) ... and no, checking "use legacy DHCP client" in developer settings did not fix it.

I have a galaxy Tab A and it is connected to school WiFi. I rebooted and cleared cache and it still will not connect ...it keeps saying offline...with this WiFi you need to go to the school website and click accept

With a lot of public wifi, you have to be redirected to a page to accept terms of service or something. If your default browser is Chrome, this often doesn't work in my experience.

Start Samsung's browser ("Internet") and try to surf to any web site, and most routers will then direct you to the login/terms of service page. Log in to that and it usually works.

I have no idea why it almost never works in Chrome...

This didn't work for me. When I tried it, it stopped saying "Obtaining IP Address" and started saying "No Internet Connection". So, I tried changing the last two digits instead of just the last one, and now it's stuck at "Connected, No Internet". There are only some other people at my highschool with an Android that have this issue. Everybody at my highschool with an iPhone who tries to connect succeeds, and it works for them.
