why can't i highlight with my galaxy note 10.1

some articles can be highlighted and some not. it worked fine yesterday and today - not. have i changed a setting accidently?

I thought I had this issue. But Google has somehow changed the selection colour. It is white on white. The selection is still working and if you know where to expect the mark to drag to select it is still there just with no outline to identify it.
