why can't i pair my at&t sim with my honor 5x?

i just got my new huawei honor 5x and i'm trying to pair it with my pre-existing at&t number. the representative there couldn't figure it out. does anyone have any ideas about what i can do? thanks

Have you tried to just pop in your active att sim into the honor 5x?
