Why can't I pair my new U8 smartwatch with my ZTE phone

When I go to pair my smartwatch to my ZTE the watch locates my device and shows a code number that matches the one on my phone. But when I hit pair my smartwatch reads pairing error and on my phone it says unable to communicate with U8 incorrect pin or passcode. The instructions that came with it doesn't tell me anything that is helpful. So what do I do.

IIRC the U8 requires a stand alone app to pair BT. I don't think you pair it "directly" with the OEM bluetooth function built into Android.
