Why can't I send/receive MMS?

To start I have a pay as you go plan with At&T. I purchased a HTC One (M7) unlocked on Amazon. The phone has the verizon software but i'm using it with AT&T. Everything works fine but MMS. When I got the phone I set up the APN and was unable to send or receive MMS (yes they are part of my package). After talking to various people we determined that I needed data in order to send and receive MMS. So i changed my plan and added data, but i'm still unable to get MMS. I can get on the internet with my data but it won't send or receive. It's showing the EDGE network and after trying to send about 30 mins later I get a message saying generic network failure. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix my MMS? or even get my phone on 3G and see if that prevents it from timing out which I assume is what it is doing?

Are you using the stock SMS or Hangouts? I would recommend trying an SMS app from the Play Store. Handcent, GoSMS, or one of the other more popular apps. I Know Hangouts has issues with MMS, and it's kind of hit and miss how well it works at all and I have a feeling that could be area related. The stock SMS app is OK for some stuff but it is limited when it comes to customizing and I've seen reports where it gets buggy with messages. Best case changing apps will clear up your issue. Worst case CDMA is not compatible with GSM to the point SMS won't work. If changing apps doesn't work I'd suggest you go over to XDA Developers and search for or post your question over there. They are all about rooting and making things work and I wouldn't doubt that this question has been posted over there if it isn't as simple as changing apps.

I probably sound like a broken record (posted in a number of threads), but try ChompSMS. It has special settings for MMS that work flawlessly on my M7, as well as my G2.
