Why can't I take a screenshot on my tablet?!?!

Okay, so I just got a new tablet and I'm trying to take a screenshot holding the power and vol down button, but all it does is lock my tablet. I tried holding them both down too, and it still just locks it. I've taken screenshots on here before, but now it's not working. Help?

On some devices, screenshot function calls by holding home and power buttons at the same time. You can also try home and back buttons. If your device is Samsung tablet, try to find virtual "screenshot-button" on navigation panel. Good luck!

What tablet? I know samsungs don't have that feature anymore(or at least not on my s5), but they do let you with swiping the screen with your palm.
