Why can't I view photos or vids?

I have a Huwaei P20. Recently, when taking photos or videos, the thumbnails show in the gallery, but upon clicking them to view them, the image appears on screen for one second, before it takes me straight back to the gallery.

I can view the images/videos in full when going into 'files', but not via the gallery.

All 3rd party images/vids (e.g viabWhatsApp/Messenger) are viewable from the gallery, just not ones taken on the phone itself.

Any ideas?

Try clearing data, cache, force stop gallery

Your welcome!, if it happens again just do the other steps also clear data/cache and force stop


Edit: sometimes these apps get filled up or update and need to do this once in awhile.

I've seen this mentioned a few times lately about Huawei's Gallery app. I wonder if there was an update recently that caused this to happen temporarily.

It's possible, if it gets a new update and needs old cache to clear out .
