Why can't they hear me?

Update!!
Hey guys I booked my phone to be sent to samsung for repair last night and guess what! as I picked it up from charging this morning and didnt do anything at all and tried to make a call and BOOM! its working fine...I since made so many calls just to make up the 4 days of pain and till now its working perfectly as if nothing ever happened to it. I am not gonna get fooled into this and will still send it for repair to 3 network and it will probabily take around 7 working days for me to have it back again under warranty. so thats the situation. I believe this problem has no solution till the mic or whatever does this has been changed. trust me factory resetting isn't the solution. I followed all these steps and my phone didn't work then and came bk itself this morning. my advice if you accounter this issue talk to your service provider and get it sent for repair... best way really. Service provider (3Network UK) told me that its a Samsung S series problem and they have no idea what it is about! they think its a sensor problem to do with mic dirts but thats about it! how does the phone get to work by itself they aint got ideas. Anyway I will update you good ppl again once my phone gets bk. Good luck!

Did I miss reading the part where you mentioned that you had performed a Factory Reset?

I did that around 5 times but it didnt make my phone work!! the repair I went to did that aswell but didn't make the phone work mate! the only thing that is a known solution for this problem seem to be that lil hole for the mic! by cleaning it the phone may work again which the repair told me! then again its no so advisory for novices to adventure themselves and clean it coz you might damage something and possibly make it worse! if your phone is still under warranty you will get a new mic put in it and no charge! if not then thats a different story! Factory resetting maybe a good thing to do for others but it certainly does not fix this problem mate. I can only say its a random thing coz my phone is working fine now and I haven't done anything as last night I couldn't hear either the person am calling nor them hear me but now i can... so I can't say I did this or that for it to work again. Anyway thats my take.

Mates, I got the solution!
I had the same issue, so that no one could've heard me but I could've record videos clearly without any trouble. I headed to my phone carrier (WIND Toronto) and asked for help. They told me to reset factory setting after getting a back up of all storage data. They claimed that it is a software bug that can be recovered after resetting my S3! Unfortunately when I tried out their advice, I saw nothing had changed! My microphone was not functioning while talking... So, I speculated that there could be some dust or junks trapped inside the microphone hole (in the bottom of S3)... I employed a little needle and budged it very gently to vacate and clean out the hole.... Surprisingly, I extracted a bit of dregs and deposited dusts!!! After cleaning the hole, I saw the microphone issue gone away!!! You can simply fix that small (but annoying) problem by a needle.... ((JUST BE CAREFUL to act very gently and cautiously, otherwise you may completely defect your device.))
As an Iranian, english is not my first language so forgive me for possible lapses please!

So a few days ago my mic stopped working in calls and when trying to record using an app. BUT it works when I am using whatsapp to do a voice recording... When receiving or making calls no one can hear me on both speakerphone or normally... Any ideas?

I have a four month old Galaxy S3. Everything worked except people couldn't hear me. Cleaning the microphone at the bottom of the phone with a needle fixed the problem. Thanks to those who posted this fix.:)

So I just signed to this forum up because none of the fixes I saw hear worked and then by dumb luck I seemed to have stumbled upon the fix. it's TTY!! I guess when my kids were playing with my wife's phone they turned it on. To turn it off try this:

Hit the green phone button>in phone menu hit settings in bottom left>press call settings> scroll down to TTY mode and turn it to TTY off.

BOOM! glad I could help! ;)

I'm having a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2. I can make and receive calls but no one can hear me. If I keep the phone flat and hit speakerphone I can have the conversation but if I just swipe to answer and put it to my ear no one can hear me :( Also the screen turns black and I can't get it to come back on. I can't even hang it up. I know it can't be my Mic because speaker phone and videos work just fine... Can someone please help me. This is frustrating!!!

What happens if you don't put the phone to your ear (but don't turn on the speakerphone)? Can they hear you and can you hear them?
Have you tried using a wired headset like the one that came with your phone?
Also the screen turns black and I can't get it to come back on.
This sounds like the proximity sensor is buggered up or is being interfered with. Did you just put a new case or screen protector on the phone? You can try going into the Phone app, press the Menu button, select Call settings and uncheck 'Turn off screen during calls'.

I'm on ATT and I am having the same issue. However the only way that a caller can hear me is over my bluetooth and using my speaker it cuts in and out. So the carrier doesn't matter.

Hello Rory (I hope).

I have a GS4 which I purchased in October (Sprint--may they rot in hell). I experienced the issue of calling out and having the callee say they cannot hear me. Like you I tried all the so-called solutions. I came across your experience and proposed solutions and they seem sound but to me at least, hey were not clear. Would you PM me a step by step set of actions that were successful for you? Thank you so much.

Paul.

I just had to add to this thread... I know this is going to sound so very crazy but the problem with people hearing me turned out to be simple body mechanics. When I hold my phone (especially for long calls) my pinky finger gravitated over the Mic. hole on the bottom. I am on a call, my mother says "hello, hello..." I move my pinky bam... she hears me again. Crazy I know but it's what "fixed" my issue.

Thank you! All I did was clean microphone at the bottom of the phone with a needle and now it works like new! Saved me so much money from buying a new one

I have a three month old Galaxy Note 3. Everything worked fine except people couldn't hear me during phone calls. I was amazed that cleaning the microphone at the bottom of the phone with a needle completely fixed the problem. Thanks to those who posted this fix.

P.S. I'm also new to the forum...so hello! :-)
