There are small alternatives, it's just that you seem to think the everyday person cares what the spec sheet says. Since you keep bringing up iPhone, I'm looking at Apple's iPhone 5 product page and except their screen specs and camera they don't list any real stats. Unless I'm assuming that Apple has put the best hardware in their phone and leave it at that, I'll have to go to third party sites to find out what the real stats are in the iPhone.
But hey I'll throw ya bone here, one of my friends I'm debating college football with is only on iOS because he can't get a top end phone at 4in. But that is because he only uses his phone for mainly phone functions and his iPad for media. Although he said he'll decide once his contract is up with his iPhone 4 to go iPhone 5 if it has been jailbroken or sell his iPad and iPhone to get the Note 2 and iPod Touch.

^^^^ completely missed the point of this post.
The point is THERE AREN'T ANY high end top specs in a smaller size!
My wife wants one because she has tiny hands but the market ignores her.
She was excited hearing about the galaxy s 3 mini, but then they ruined it by dropping the specs. Should have simply kept the exact same specs except screen size

Hmm...
I know none of the smaller phones have high end specs. The important part is most people doesn't care about the specs of the phone as long as it works for them. Except the camera and battery life as long as that phone doesn't lag or crash then they aren't saying a thing.
Far as the S3 Mini, that sucks they scaled it down but nothing can be done except voicing your opinions.

Why does that same logic not work for the big brother phones? Why do only the people who like smaller devices not care about specs? That's the fundamental flaw in ur argument right there....

When you name me the last high end 4incher that didn't sell well, then I'll concede to your point.

That's crap. The customers who are vociferous are the kids that want bigger screens to play games and watch videos. Those who want a mid-sized phone are too busy performing productive activities to go into stores and check out the latest and greatest cell phones, and voice opinions. When is the last time you saw a VP or executive of a non-tech company pull out some big ol'honkin phone? OEMs make the bigger phones because there is some demand for those, but also because it is easier to put all of those high end specs into a larger frame. It is more difficult to do the same in a smaller frame. But Apple did it, and sold 5 million phones in the first month. Size does matter.
I'd take the Razr M which I think is a perfect device for me. However, with the exclusivity of that phone on Verizon, I don't have that option being on AT&T. Exclusivity is good for corporations, but bad for consumers. Save your breath saying "then just switch to Verizon," because receiving a corporate discount on AT&T precludes this. In my opinion, AT&T doesn't offer a single good mid-sized phone. Just may have to settle for the Xperia TL if it ever becomes available.
The entire discussion has become silly. At the end of the day, there's nothing wrong with asking for a smaller high end device. No one heres knowd two s$@ts about what research has or hasnt been done by anyone.
There is nothing wrong with me as a keyboard lover wanting a high end slide out keyboard device, but am a realist and after about 2 years I have finally come to accept that I am in a niche (just as the OP is) and I have a choice: Get a mid range keyboard device and carry a powerhouse secondary device (which I am doing now with the Droid 4, along with whatever other phone I choose to carry on any given day), or bite the billet and pick a powerhouse device with a large screen, and thus large touch screen keyboard, easier to type on and get the cursor where I want it when editing text (which I will likely end up doing sometime in the next year).
They all have the capability. I think going larger is just OEMs chasing their tails. An example if this, and apple is included in this... is OEMs constantly looking to go thinner. It has been well established now that people do not care so much for super thin. People clearly would give up light and thin for increased battery life. So you finally see a bit of a shift back from this with the razr maxx hd, the new nexus 4, and others who are now raising the bar by adding batteries over 2000mah and making the next evolution to their products a bit heavier or not any thinner than the previous.
