Why can't we get top specs in a normal Size???

Wait till the tech advances and bezels shrink. Then we'll have 4.65 inch screens on more manageable sized devices. At least. That's what I tell myself when I imagine the future. :)

Simple Question: Why is it do hard to fathom a top spec'd device in a 4in to 4.3in screen size??? iphone success doesn't give phone makers a clue???

Motorola "ALMOST" got it right with the new razr maxx HD, right up until I heard that it's going to have a 4.7in FML device!!! Anyone agree???

Droid Razr M, HTC Incredible 4g.

Again, the smaller screen phones don't match their big brother spec for spec, be it camera, screen res, quality, etc. And every time a new device comes to market, it's smaller screen cousin always sacrifices more than just screen size. Look at the htc one series! I think if the one x was at most, 4.3in bezel to bezel screen with the exact same design, it would be a hit! And since no one appears to be trying to compete in this market right now, its anyones game! Iphone customers alone should be proof that the market for this would be huge! Practicality is huge when it comes to mobile... And I'm not even a guy with small hands... I'm just a guy that can't stand to see ppl walking around with vcrs on their sides! It looks ungodly ridiculous! If i want more screen, i get a tablet.

Another note as it relates to movies and media... 4in isn't much better than 4.7in. In the end, a movie on mobile is just not the best way. In the end, a home lcd or led lcd is how u watch a movie. Anything mobile, it has to be accepted that ur doing it on the fly! That's like wanting a mobile dolby digital 5.1 for your phone... Its just all ridiculous and impractical.

Clearly small screens aren't a huge deal as apple had to up their size apples screen size has been a sore spot to most apple consumers for years wait and see how many later start asking for an even bigger screen and clearly there is a market for these larger screen phones look at the note  oh no

What's wrong with the DROID RAZR M and DROID Incredible 4G LTE?

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Android Central Forums

Razr M is qHD screen IIRC and it's on Verizon. If the screen is anything like the Razr/Maxx then I sure as hell won't want to touch it.

Seems like the only chance for a decent device that isn't oversized is to go iOS or wait for BB10 devices to launch, since the smaller Android and WP8 devices all seem like they're going to be crippled compared to the larger ones (screen resolution/PPI, internal storage, and other specs).

I have a skyrocket and it's impossible to use one handed. I've already dropped the phone twice trying to reach for something with my thumb.

I can't wait to move to something smaller without having to sacrifice power, and apparently Android and WP8 aren't even trying to really attack that market (heavy users who want a smaller device) so I'll have to bounce.

Let me hit you with a dose of reality. Big screens are in. Either you man up and get a high end phone with a big screen or just settle for a ''mid range'' device and stop complaining. Your definition of ''normal'' is your own.

iPhone 5 is not "mid-range," and they're quite "in" so I dunno what world you're living in. You do know probably half (I'd bet more than half) of Android device Activations are mid-range devices with small screens so it's not like these big screened super phones are destroying the smaller phones in marketshare.

Issue is if you want a high end smartphone at smaller screen size you simply need to look outside of the Android ecosystem. OEMs here don't care about that. They think bigger is better and in the USA (at least) a lot of consumers have bought into that (I live in the USA, so I'm not being geographically racist here).

A ton of people actually stick with Apple precicely because they're the only OEM that's commited to providing a usable phone for people with small hands or people who want to use their device one handed.

I would look like a complete and utter idiot using something like a Galaxy Note in public. Sorry, but I have this thing called pride.

It's already hard enough just dealing with the Skyrocket, since it forces me to stop in my tracks to use it two handed. That's something I never had to do with a 4" smartphone. Usability > Wow Factor/size and these phones have such bad in-use battery life that going big "to watch movies" just sounds sort of ed...

I have a skyrocket am I an idiot for using it? It fits me fine

I'm a bit worried to hear about the HTC 5" rumored Nexus device. I would really PRAY that we will have a high end offering from someone that is <4.8".... that little bit of a difference is HUGE (love the feel of my current GNex)

This is a price point issue. If big screen, flagship phones were in the $0-$50 range they would by far outsell the midrange ones.

There will always be personal preference differences, but OEM's have to maximize their sales, and in a market like andriod, where choices are everywhere, it has not been shown that there is a high demand for a high end hardware unit with small factor. Having sold phones for a long time, in my experience, bigger screen is a high priority for most people, and I've seen more Apple people than not admit to wishing the iPhone was as big as the top Androids.

That's your feeling, but I have 4 or 5 friends who love using their Notes in public. Hell, I have seen it start up some pretty good conversations at bars. I just don't see why anyone would think that using their device of choice should hurt their pride.

LOL so what you're saying is if you use a Note in public it will hurt your pride? Sorry but that is the most ridiculous comment I've ever read.

How can anyone say that the market shows that only large high end Android devices sell??? Can anyone make a statement like that when there hasn't been ANY smaller high end phone on the market since the original galaxy s. And now that i think about it, the original galaxy s, a 4iner, was a very popular phone in its time!

If a 4in device is not selling, usually its because its already been engineered and marketed to be the budget device! Can't sell something to the masses and tech geeks that's marketed as "the budget alternative!"

I'm a bit perplexed at the lack of education apparently some posters have been cursed with. My post was clearly written yet they seem to have read something completely different. Astonishing...

"I would look like a total idiot using something like a Note in public."

Yes, have you seen what that thing looks like when someone 5'4" 130# is using it? It's like wearing Ronald McDonald's shoes. It's not comfortable, it's ungainly, and it's unsightly. I don't like having BT headsets stuck in my ears all the time, or earbuds. I'd have to talk with that thing to my head. *I would look like an idiot.*

"I have something called pride."

EDIT: Nice edit there, buddy.

Pretty simple. It has nothing to do with how much it would hurt anyone, or how you'd look using it. If you're Shaq then I'm sure it would look fabulous. I'm not touching anything that big, though.

Yes, looking like a bumbling idiot hurts my pride. I have an ego just like everyone else. It's why you're trying so hard to make my statement look so ridiculous on this forum :-)

The Skyrocket is a wide 4.5" device. It is uncomfortable to use for anyone with small hands and if you add a case to it, it gets worse since the phone gets wider and thicker as a result of it. If you have larger hands the wider, bigger screen is totally fine. If you're a small person like me and have small hands to match, it's impossible to use one handed and it's a real PITA to use period. My thumb cannot even reach across any of those screens, nevermind to the corner of one. They basically require two handed operation which causes obvious usability issues in many situations.

^^- therein lies the problem. If someone like me wants a comfortable high end smartphone to use then the Android hardware ecosystem is basically off-limits. There are no choice since they're all 4.5-5.3" devices. We all know where mid range devices end up, support-wise, if they come with Android installed on them... Windows Phone seems to be going in the same direction, so I'm writing them off. iOS and Blackberry seem to be the only ones focusing on this key usability metric. Bigger is not always better. Productivity > entertainment to many people.

Last I checked, people came in all different shapes and sizes.

Nobody has disputed that. The question is, is it worth manufacturers trying to make devices for every individual? They seem to think it's not, and I expect they do the market research to justify that decision. I'm sure we could all find 100 different opinions on phone size if we asked enough people. A device not being able to be used comfortably by one group, doesn't necessarily make it a great idea for a company to spend the $ putting out a model that group considers perfect.

Would be cool if someone did a reasonable priced Configure-to-Order option though.

I'm a bit perplexed at the lack of common sense apparently some posters have been cursed with. If a phone is too big for your little hands, don't purchase a large phone. :)

That's the whole point, they want a high end phone but they want a screen that does fit their hands, but manufacturers aren't making that an option without sacrificing something.

Stop lowering specs when you make a smaller phone and things would be fine for those with little hands or those that wear women's jeans.

Personally i love my gs3 is the perfect size to be able to use one handed and fits in the pocket easily.

But i don't have tiny hands either but the note would be to big
