Why did Google reverse the Home and Search

An irritation of Nexus S for those of us who previously owned a Nexus One is that for no discernible reason, Google reversed the locations of the Home and Search buttons. Why would they do that? Just for grins? There IS value in maintaining consistency from generation to generation.
 
That's not Google; thats a Samung design.

Really? I would have thought that since it is a Google phone that they would have had control over such things. Anyway, it isn't the end of the world - just an annoyance that I will soon get over.

no not really.
 
imho, home in far (right) corner is more intuitive for a frequently used button. button location is more from ergonomics researchers, vs power users/searchers...

edit: to be more precise, buttons located in corners are easier to find than buttons in fields (unless you are out standing in you're field).
