Why did Message+ require me to create a new profile today?

[AC Question]

Had this phone for years. Suddenly today, when I tried to respond to a text message, the application when blank and I was presented with a dialog box where I was forced to enter a new user id and save it in order to access my text messages. Now, the "send" arrow has turned blue and says "SMS" next to it.

What happened? Has my phone been hacked. Did I just transmit all my personal data to a criminal.

Please advise why an old phone, and old text messaging app would suddently require me to create a new userID.
