Why did my phone delay downloading images for two months?

So, I have a bunch of memes on my phone, who doesn't? Well, about two months ago I got grounded from my phone, and wasn't on it until last Saturday when I was going to Grad Bash at Universal. Well, when I was trying to delete YouTube (I now know it's a beta app, and you can't), I opened up Google to look it up. Well, when I opened up my google app on my phone, three images downloaded that I didn't Google. I didn't think much of it, but because I was still grounded, my parents thought I was googling stuff behind their back (I wasn't). Anywho, why did my phone delay it for that long, or why did it wait until I opened up the app to download?
