Why did my phone turn of and refuse to turn on?

[Android Central Question]

A few days ago I was at my friends house on my phone. Well it shut off at 50 and won't turn back on. It starts turning on but just before it does it refuse to continue and drains the battery. My sister said this happened to her and I need a new phone but I want an expert opinion. Thanks.

Try a new battery, or did she tell you to get a new phone because this one has many problems and it's old?
