why did my video files convert to images when i tried transferring them?

i took out the micro SD card from my security camera and inserted it into my samsung galaxy S7 Edge and tried uploading the pictures/videos on it to my phone. at no point did i select or try to convert file type or delete the videos, but now all i see are a ton of the snapshots i took... which makes me think either the videos are gone, or they most like converted to images somehow. kind of lost...

Is it in a format the phone can read? Also I know a coworker who had a similar thing happen and it went to another folder but showed thumbnail snapshots of the videos in the correct folder.
