Why did Verizon remove Google & Replace it with Bing?!

I'm only basing it off of this comment. I'm sure my experience with battery life will not be as good as mentioned here.

So based on this quote, we can get Google Nav to work?

I know. If this wasn't an option, I would definitely NOT get this phone. I use Maps/Nav constantly.

Welcome to the forums BTW!

Thanks, I have been with XDA and PPC Geeks for a while, but been drooling over this phone for months, so much I have 2 other friends that bought with other services after I told them about the Galaxy.

I also found that the Touch Wiz is very easily turned off on this phone also. That is even better!! Stock Android.

Some posts over at XDA show a one touch Root is somewhere out there already.
One click root app - xda-developers

Groovy, that's the first thing I'm going to do when I get it out of the box. The second thing I'm going to do is download root explorer, the 3rd thing is going to be deleting every last trace of anything Microsoft related, and finally I will rename all that bloatware from bloatware.apk to bloatware.apk.old

junk software, basicly software loaded on the device that most people dont want

I see, I don't understand why they put that crap on there at all. Why can't they just give the people what they want.

the makers of some of that bloatware pay verizon (and other carriers) to preload that crap. in regards to verizon's navigator, they charge you to use it. that's kind of shady of verizon.

help keep profit margins high. so they can continue to sell you that 500 dollar phone for 199. its good and bad i just wish they had a way to uninstall it rather than force the software on you then charge you to use it

Do you create your own ROMs or do you have ROMs that you like?

I do not create ROM's, although I would like to someday. None of what I said requires a custom ROM, just root access. Once I get the phone, I will post some step by step instructions on what I did.

I'm sure someone will post the voicesearch.apk from another phone to get the google search. Then you should be able to drop that .apk onto your sd card and install. We have Microsoft reps that come in to show us/sell us software under our enterprise agreement. The reps always use bing to search for crap and its soooo funny when they don't find it and say something like, maybe it was some other title.. oh well...

Let me know if anyone tries this. I was thinking about buying this phone for my wife and I have the voicesearch.apk file backed up onto my sd card of my DroidX from the /system/app folder. I will try if I decide to get the phone.
