Why did Verizon remove Google & Replace it with Bing?!

Yep I know. No problem. I just should have done a little more research on my own lol. I ordered my phone today, so hopefully rooting will be possible and all will be well. If not, I have 30 days to exchange this puppy for something else.

No reason to merge Bing threads..All you have to do is put a sticky with the title BING SUCKS!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PHONE!!! ;)

OK, Bing Sucks, but that is no reason to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PHONE!!!

YES IT IS!!!!!!! When I buy an Android phone its because of GOOGLE!! I LOVE me some google maps with free and AWESOME navigation. Thats like buying an iPhone but saying you cant use iTunes..C'mon now... Everyone should stay away from this phone, where does VZW even come up with the logic of stripping key components of google off of android which is google?? Think about it...

I'm amazed to hear that even if you get the Google search widget onto the Fascinate, the results still come from Bing.

I wonder how Google feels about the fact that Verizon is intercepting queries from the Google widget and redirecting them to Bing? I can only assume they know about it, but I'd be surprised if they didn't object. Forget about their ownership of Android; how would any developer feel if their app's business was getting hijacked by a direct competitor?

No, not everyone.

Just because you intend to stay away does not mean that everyone should. One would think that would send VZW a lesson. But, no, I think they are learning impaired on these issues. You are right about the illogic though.
VZWLogic seems to be an oxymoron. Pretty stupid from our perspective. But the bean counters at VZW could not resist the $$ from Microsoft. The bean counters aren't into the smartphones like some other carriers are. I think they would have been better off in the long run by having a hot phone like this configurable with google instead of bing but I'm sure the thing will be rooted shortly. If rooted and ROMed this will definitely be a hot phone for those of us who like to customize and mod our phones. If not, well, I still have 30 days to take it back to VZW.

If I were google I would seriously be looking into why when a search is done through a google search app it processes through bing. That's a potential law suit. Hell I will make up some B.S. search name but have it route everyone that uses it through google.

Hopefully this post will put somewhat of an end to rumors. I in fact work for VZW. I like all of you was really interested in the phone before I heard about the "Bing" thing. I reached out to my Samsung contact who is a sales rep supporting the enterprise space. He is a reliable source because he's helped me out many times before and he helped me close a 100+ line deal with samsung omnias in the past. i know his info is legit. he just recently got his fascinate and he told me that he was able to move bing into the trash bin and replace it with google voice search and google maps on his homepage. he did admit that you cannot save apps on the memory card currently but will change when froyo comes out. he also explained that VZW forced samsung to put bing on the fascinate but google did not like this and allowed google software to overwrite bing.

hopefully this sheds some light. we will find out more this week when i receive and play with mine.

What I would like to know is how this supposed samsung rep is the only one who can move bing to a trash bin and replace it with google maps and navigation? No one else so far that I have seen is able to do this. Are you trying to say that he has froyo on his fascinate and that's how its working? Personally I don't believe one word of it.

This could be the case, but ask him what happens when he holds down on the capacitive search button, and what opens when search results are returned > Bing.

That rep was probably just referring to the widget. Bing is still there. Google Maps can be downloaded and installed from the Market, and so can Google Navigation. Anything that guy put on his homescreen was a result of downloading one of these apps and then placing a shortcut to it on his homescreen.

Even if it can be downloaded it is essentially useless as it cannot be used. For the average consumer this is a huge deal breaker. Average consumer will not be looking to root or even know what that means.
