Why did YOU choose the One over any other device?

Like the title says, and this is strictly to get other's opinion on the device. Why they may think it's superior to other Android devices and so on. Also, tell us what you don't like about it. I apologize in advance if this has been brought up before. I am at work and time is limited. :)

I was switching from iPhone 4. Was familiar with Android from others' phones and my ASUS TF300 tablet.

At this point, it's about HTC One vs Samsung S4 in the Android market IMO. I'll show you the comparisons I made, HTC vs Samsung (respectively)

At base model, $200 vs $250
At base model, 32 GB (not expandable) storage vs 16 GB (expandable)
Non-removable vs removable battery
4 UltraPixels vs 13 MegaPixels
S4 has slightly larger screen, can't remember offhand the sizes.
Sense 5.0 vs TouchWiz
Aluminum body/attractive look vs. plastic/unexceptional look
Traditionally slower updates on HTC's end
BoomSound vs not BoomSound

I loved the look of the phone. It seems silly and for some people, it is. However, I'm going to live with this thing...it is basically going to be an extension of myself for years. Beyond that, it has to be more durable.

As far as Sense goes, I don't think it is an especially intrusive take on Android compared to TouchWiz. The BlinkFeed feature is something I decided I would use and have used, though I quickly made it a non-default home screen.

I didn't know that Beats audio would be so good, but it is -- it essentially gives you a perfect EQ whereas other phones skimp on this to save on battery. BoomSound is cool as well, I have it play music when I'm in the shower now and I can even hear it over the shower/vent.

I have expandable storage on my ASUS tablet and never got around to using it or felt like I needed it, so I knew it wasn't a feature I cared that much about on my phone especially when it comes with so much storage. The battery isn't amazing, but more or less the same as my iPhone. I will occasionally set it on power save mode throughout the day and in that case, the battery is exceptional.

For the camera, I looked at picture comparisons on CNET, etc. and saw that the HTC almost always looked better. It does better in indoor lighting, for sure, and that's what I need. Zoe is really cool as well. I would like the 4.2.2 update and I will probably get annoyed at the slow updates, but it isn't a big deal for now.

Because it looks and feels top end. Screen is beautiful. Front speakers, I can actually hear speakerphone calls now. Blinkfeed is actually quite useful. And I have never been let down by HTC devices. And I love sense.

I switched from Verizon Galaxy Nexus that was getting a little slow. I appreciate the beautifl design of the HTC One, the screen is the best and for someone with hearing loss, the front facing speakers ACTUALLY WORK. As for SENSE, I'm rooted running Cyanogenmod 10.1. I was disappointed only that the One came with 4.1.2 other than that it's an awesome phone and AT&T (was on them in 2008/2009 with iPhone 3GS) has been great.

I hear ya. I know many different opinions about htc but for me they have been mostly good. (hated the htc diamond for so many reasons)

I switched from a Verizon Galxy Nexus to the One on AT&T...tired of waiting. Reasons I went for the One over an S4 on Verizon was build quality. I owned the original G1 and then the Droid Incredible and both were solid devices, especially the DInc- that was an amazing phone. After the Nexus I wanted a device that was solid and HTC's build quality is great. That was number one.

Second is the camera. The capabilities and the features (which I am still discovering) are great.

Another reason is the design. It's a gorgeous phone. My only quibble about the design is the power button. I wish it was just a hair further out.

Coming from stock I am quite impressed with Sense and remember liking Sense on the DInc.

Glad I made the decision!

Things I like:
1. The aluminum body. I'm coming from a Samsung Focus S (Windows Phone) that developed a crack near the power button (random without dropping) that really messed it up. I'm hoping that random cracks aren't as common with higher end materials. And it just looks and feels SO nice.

2. Everywhere I look I see GS3s and now GS4s. I like having something different. I had an original Palm Pre on Sprint and left them to get the Focus S on AT&T. I was finally tired of using an OS that lacked developer support, and sadly in both cases, official support. My Pre was never updated to WebOS 2.0 and I had to get the sub par WP7.8 through unofficial means. So I knew I wanted to go Android and the One seemed the absolute best choice that wasn't a GS4

3. I've played with a few GS3s and was less than impressed with TouchWiz. The videos I had seen of Sense 5 looked like something I could "get along with" and so far I have no regrets.

4. Camera. I looked through my saved photos and the vast majority of pics I take are indoors. The One has a far better indoors/low light camera. And this thing is incredibly fast. Especially the burst mode from holding down the camera button.

Things I don't like:
1. The home button doesn't always go to the home screen. It often goes first to the app drawer.

2. Sometimes the double-tap or long-press home button doesn't register and I have to do it 2 or 3 times to get to Google Now or the app switcher.

There are some things I miss:
1. A dedicated hardware camera button. Something that WP got oh so right.

2. OS level baked in bluetooth support. With WP the sms reading and reply support was an OS feature and I haven't found a suitable app replacement yet.

These are some thoughts with just under 2 weeks with the phone. I am happy with my choice and have no regrets.

I appreciate everyone's replies here. I ask because I have the S4 now, but am so torn as to whether I want to exchange it for the ONE or not. I love my S4 and all but, decisions decisions............

Try to just think of all the ways in which the two phones differ and then figure out which of those feature differences apply to you more. In many cases, the differences aren't better vs worse, but rather better for one person and worse for another.

The camera, for instance. If you take shots in good lighting that you want lots of detail in, the GS4 is better. If you take most of your pictures indoor with lower lighting, the One camera will work better for you.

I think TouchWiz looks extremely outdated, and since I was switching over from iOS, I liked the smooth finish that Sense 5.0 has. That being said, i'm not comfortable with the idea of rooting. Hardware-wise, the speakers on the HTC One are awesome, and I thought a 5.0" screen would be too big.

I have nexus 7,10 love the stock Android would have gotten a n 4 if att carried it . Weird but I like a contract. That said htc phone's have been good to me and my 1 is and would be perfect if it ran stock Android.

I had the Incredible 2 for two years and grew quite fond of HTC. As a 10+ year Verizon customer, I was reluctant to leave Big Red for a different carrier. The specs and reviews for the One made me start checking every day for the Verizon release date. Found out that I get a corporate discount for AT&T so I ran some numbers and saw that I could save some money by switching over while getting the phone I've been waiting for.

II love the phone so far. The only thing that I am not enamored with yet is the Blink feed. I like the idea but I wish I could pick more specific sources than the 10 or so that they have there.

I'm coming from a Galaxy S3 and have really come to hate Samsung software quality. Touchwiz had a few bugs that weren't major but really aggravated me. Had to deal with copy/paste crashing the system and the only fix was a full software reset. In 4.1 they introduced a new bug where scrolling on empty whitespace zoomed the page. Kies Air never worked for me and Kies desktop software worked when it felt like it. Even their sharing software to stream content to Samsung TVs never really worked well.

Samsung seem more interested in gimmicky features than actually getting their software working properly. In the end the final straws were the battery being disconnected when I tried to charge it and then the SD card randomly ejecting.

So I ended up buying an HTC One 64GB for full price than put up with the GS3 for another year. Been happy so far, software quality and overall build quality is so much better than Samsung. I didn't think 1080p would be noticeable compared to 720p but it's definitely sharper though subtle. And outdoors, the One screen is much better than the GS3. I do wish battery life were a few hours longer but it's still better than the GS3.

The AT&T software kinda sucks and I've already switched out Sense for Nova launcher but pretty happy with the One overall. Now I know to pick HTC over Samsung anyday.

Kind of late, but for me it was the front facing speakers and the fact that I got it for $49.99 (with a new contract of course)

I got the phone earlier for free at fest buy because I had a lot of gift cards. But I because I like HTC Sense in the front facing speaker are awesome. And the fact that the android, software just works. and when 4.2.2 comes out it will be even better.

I came from an iPhone 4s. I was looking for a bigger screen and more freedom. It was down to the HTC One or the GS4. I picked the HTC One for the screen (wanted to be able to view in sunlight) and the build.
