Why didn't google remove the 3.5mm headphone input?

I don't think so. Even though it's old it's good and really nice technology. Nobody have achieved such a good audio quality with digital ports ever, so if in the meantime nobody presents a better solution I think the port shouldn't be dismissed

Google isn't going to receive licensing fees from headphone manufacturers for the USB type C port, nor do they own a headphone company to sell a new line of USB type C headphones. Apple, on the other hand, will receive licensing fees for the lightning port and owns Beats, which will make new headphones with lightning plugs.

Unless they really needed the space or save a few cents per phone, there's nothing in it for Google or their customers.

Does Google have a good partner for the USB C headphones? If they included a pair that would add even more to the cost.

I don't mind changing technology when it makes sense to do so. But simply removing the headphone jack for the sake of removing it doesn't. Making changes for changes sake is never a good idea. I mean really, what are the benefits of doing so?

If you keep using older headphones with the 3.5mm connector, that means carrying around a dongle and using two pieces of gear when only one was needed previously. Switching to USB-C headphones costs money and from what I've read the audio quality isn't any better than that of the 3.5mm jack.

So you can either carry more gear to accomplish the same thing, or spend money for the same or worse performance. But hey, IT'S NEW TECHNOLOGY!!!

I understand what u mean...

the headphone jack is such an old tech it should be removed just like remotes for tv... I don't understand why every tv can't perform remote options via mind reading yet... I wish the world would catch up :sigh:

This a real post? Why would Google remove it? The headphone jack is still very useful and people like options.

1. They'd have to develop a USB-C adapter to allow for wired headphones (which many still prefer for the higher sound quality) or pray that 3rd parties would develop headphones for a non-traditional connection that nobody else is using - without the massive army of companies developing for a new phone that Apple has for iPhone.

2. You wouldn't be able to use wired headphones and charge your phone at the same time.

until there is a good technology that can replace headphone jack without compromising user experience, it is gonna stay.
