Why do (Android) phones need so many cores?

Ei-yi-yi...

OK.. the iPhone 5s is a great phone... quick, nice screen, takes good pics.... Some (like me) have a problem with the closed nature of the platform, but whatever... I will readily admit that it still a good phone and one that suits a lot of people's needs just fine. It isn't the fastest, smoothest phone on the market.. but it is still pretty fast and smooth.

But it's **** still stinks, like everyone else. iPhone owners have issues... it'll crash, lag, hang up.... you name it. It isn't some mystical device, devoid of problems that shoots rainbows and unicorns when you turn it on. I can find plenty of examples of people who bought one and regretted the decision, just as I can find stories from people who bought a Nexus 5, or S4, or LG G2, or HTC One or Sony.... so I am not going to go cherry pick a particular anecdotal bit of evidence to bash one thing or the other.

Well, the lag is obviously not because of Android.

The A7 is, most likely, slotted in there between the Snapdragon 600 and 800 in terms of real-world performance, so again, that the 5s shows quicker than a device like the S4 and slower than a Nexus 5 is of no great surprise.

With stripped down features and lowered performance. But I guess it is still the same because the version number is the same, right? lol

The point is, that is a myth manufactured by Apple. Apple invented nothing. All the technologies used in the iPhone were already present in other phones. Apple made them prettier and more appealing, but they did not invent them.

Apple

And Android is doing it better now.

No one is arguing that the iPhone was not a great product when it came out. Just that it was not revolutionary. It did not pioneer any of those technologies. Apple packaged a bunch of existing technologies into an appealing product.

If that is true, why are most people still buying PCs and Android phones? Apple even lost marketshare on tablets to Android tablets. There is no market where Apple is chosen by the majority anymore.

Well first ☝️I never said Apple invented one thing. You interpreted something that was never there. Don't do that. Read what you quoted and that would be more then enough to say oh yea he didn't say that at all. 👉 next I made it very apparent that everything was there when Steve Jobs got to it. I also said he did it better then anyone before him 😱 this is what made him great he did it with every industry he decided to take on. Finally of course Apple isn't the majority they put life into each industry Steve chose to take on (home computer, MP3 players, cell phones, tablets, etc) and now everyone is building from it. Read what I typed. Don't interpret things that aren't there.

Oh good, then we agree on something.

When did I claim you said that? (Take your own advice)

All I did was make a statement. I never said it was your belief.

Kinda like what he did himself to begin with?

So why is it he was a "genius" but the current people are not? I smell a double standard.

Who said these other people were not geniuses? I'll however explain what makes them look like copy cats and not geniuses. Let's take the tablet industry for instance. There were clearly plenty of tablets out before the iPad. There was already a market there. However the market was weak. Steve saw potential to take this market over because it was failing anyway. What was there to lose. He saw the competition and figured they aren't doing it right that's why there failing let's try and do it my way. He threw his classic great design, a smooth UI and built off a platform people already proved to love, and wala life into a failing market and running right behind to build off his success comes other companies who incrementally build off of his decision making. They aren't considers geniuses because all they did was run directly behind Steve and not make a product that oh wow this changed the game, but oh here a few new features off of the product that did revolutionize this market.

I don't know if Steve Jobs could be considered a genius for this, but I love and admire how Apple basically managed to upset and completely rewrite the rules governing those respective markets. Apple didn't let itself be bound by the "conventional wisdom" of how a product ought to look and work. Instead, they took the rules they hated (of which there were many), broke them, and came out better for it as a result.

That's why we can have the exposed antennae design of the iphone4 in a time when no one dared to try because conventional wisdom said that metal was anathema to radio signal strength (to be fair, we initially had antennae gate, but Apple soon fixed that). That's why we have iOS devices which blocked flash in a bid to foster the development of native apps optimised for touch and direct input, offering a better user experience overall, at a time when flash was at its most popular, and when there was no template for operating an app store of that scale. That's how we had the iPad running a phone OS in a time when the tablet computers which existed were crippled laptops running desktop OSes with all the baggage of a PC. That's how we have the macbook air, which did away with the cd-drive and consolidated all the ports into one thunderbolt port to achieve that thin and light form factor. The list goes on.

But more importantly, because the current people aren't reinventing entire industries the way Apple did with the iPod, iPhone and iPad. People diss Apple for not releasing a new, heaven-shaking product category every other week, but are forgetting that no other company is exactly doing this either (or at least, doing this and succeeding).

That's the real double standard, IMO.

So we can't be critical of Apple then? Just because they did some good things before we can't say "hey when you going do something new?". Every company is subject to scrutiny and criticisms. No double standard.

This is an android forum. There will be criticisms by many who dislike Apple or feel they made a better choice by going with android. No amount of logic or kind feelings or anything is going to change that. It's just funny that at, say, iMore, there is far far far less discussion or mention of Android. So when I read people's posts here about how 'Apple users' bash android I can't identify with that. Platform bashing seems to be a phenomena that is more prevalent here.

Both iOS and android have their compromises are their pros and cons. I see what the iPhone is able to do with much less hardware, fewer CPU cores, as a positive testament to it. For those that really want more 'desktop-like' capabilities android offers more of that and requires more hardware to provide it.

We'll said. Platform bashing is much more prevalent here than iMore.

Apples users bash android in other forums. There are a lot more forums than mobile nations and Apple users will bash android quickly in let's say The Verge forums or in comment sections on various sites. Also platform bashing is even more common in WPCentral forums and CrackBerry forums even more so than here. I don't even think we do any apple bashing here, its more like critical discussions. We don't go around and say "Apple Sux lol". We have though out conversations. That's what I like most of all about AndroidCentral forums.

You can, but in the same vein, I don't see why your (or mine or anyone's criticism, for that matter) is exempt from any sort of criticism in itself.

In the end, the better argument should prevail, not about who can chorus the loudest (even in a pro-android community).

To me, it's nothing personal, just like when people have a debate. We exchange ideas (and ideology), holes are detected and poked in arguments, and we all in turn come out the wiser and better-informed for it. I have also learnt much more about Android during my time here, so I certainly find it a fruitful pursuit.

Yes indeed, some of us do. ...but many many others do not. There is plenty of 'Apple/iOS sux because I like android.' and 'Apple users this and Apple users that.' around here. ...certainly not all 'thought out conversations'. This is fine, people are allowed to bash non-android platforms here.

As a user of both platforms I enjoy the conversations myself but would be accused of trolling here quite quickly if I were to bash android, his users, or his OEMs (trust me on that 😉).

Same goes for any platform specific forums you can frequent. Mention anything critical of the OS the forums focus on and then you get criticisms.

This post makes me laugh the hardest. It's like no no mom Johnny bashed someone too, you just didn't see him.

I would be hard pressed to see a thread like this on AC. Members helping other members on an Android device and not bashing them or agreeing with the OP to bash another platform. Even the Mods helped change the title of the thread. If something like this was started on AC, they may be accused of trolling.

Well, different communities are different but the forums here @ AC are still my favorite. A lot of good discussions going on. Yeah, users of other platforms may be labeled trolls here for defending their choices but nothing's perfect anywhere. I love the Mobile Nations forums and really stopped frequenting any others.

At the end of the day... Apple fanboys will still say andriod copied and when a NEW feature comes out on the IPhones that has BEEN on andriod for years.... Apple users wont even notice and THING its a NEW feature LOL....

But it is a new feature...for them. My dad that got control centre on his iPhone was mentioning how good it is and how much easier for him, I said Android had it before and his answer was I don't really care who had it first.

I wish actual Apple fans were more like this. Accept that Android had it first and be grateful they got the feature that everyone can use:)

Anyone getting bored of Android?(IM NO LONGER BORED) - MacRumors Forums

That was my thread. I am the OP. The mods did not change he thread title, I did that myself.

This is why I left all AC subforms besides forum games forum because mostly what i've seen here are loyalists.
I got more help on an Apple forum for crying out loud:confused:
