Incorrect reporting of internal storage

Hi, I have an xperia M2 running Kitkat. I am suffering the common problem of running out of internal storage.

When I go to my settings it tells me that most of my storage is taken up by apps. When I click on an app (such as bbc iplayer) it tells me that most of the space taken up by the app is data on the sd card. However, when I clear the app data I get large increase in the amount of internal storage available.

So it seems that all my apps and data are really on the internal storage, even when it says it's on the sd card. What is going on here, and is there a way to fix it?

Many thanks,

Neill

Re: Incorrect reporting of internal storage

Very little data actually gets stored on the SD card when you try to save it there. The SD card is mainly for saving media. What you could try to free up space is clearing the cache partition. Also clear the cache on the storage page.

Re: Incorrect reporting of internal storage

Thanks.

I don't follow why the settings reports it as "data on sd card" when it's not on the sd card.

I regularly clear the cache data, and the path internal/cache has very little in it. Sounds like there are no other options (aside from rooting the device, which I want to avoid).

Re: Incorrect reporting of internal storage

There's sdcard, which is a portion of internal storage and extSdCard, which is the card you plug in. If the data is stored on sdcard, it's stored in internal storage.
