Why do I keep getting stuck on the "entering recovery" screen?

I have been trying to root my HTC One M8 (Sprint). I have already unlocked the bootloader. I flashed TWRP custom recovery and made sure it was the correct version. When I go to enter recovery I get stuck on the "entering recovery" screen with the HTC logo. I can't do anything at this point and wait for the phone to run out of battery and then it's back to normal. I've tried flashing an earlier version of the recovery and got the same result. What am I doing wrong?

Thats fine how do you flash recovery app or ADB?
