Why do I need to set up a samsung account?

I recently purchased a refurb Samsung galaxy 3S. Phone's working great, but every day in my notifications area, there is a message telling me to set up a samsung account. What do I gain from doing this, and if I don't need it, how do I stop these regular notifications?

To gain access to the samsung app store you need a samsung account (if i recall correctly). Search your phone for that app (comes with phone), maybe you can turn off notifications through the app.
