Why do i not receive any notification sound while im in a text chat.

I receive a notification sound initially, but if I open the text and respond, and keep the text open, I do not receive an alert. I would need to close the text out in order to receive a notification.

Some devices are like that but you should get a notification pop up , what device and message app you have?

Welcome to Android Central! This is normal behavior of the Google Messages app. Certain 3rd party messaging apps can be adjusted to give notifications even if the app is open to that message thread -- I believe Textra is one of them.
