Why do people care?

Why is it when it comes to phones people seem to care what you have and try to convince you to switch? Obviously here we are Android fans and if someone has an iPhone or a Windows Phone, people try to convince them to switch. Phones and carriers seem to be the one of the only things out there that people do this for. Nobody cares that I have an LG TV, nobody cares that my stereo receiver is a Sony, so why does everyone try to say that I should leave Sprint or that I should get an iPhone instead. I have seen so many posts saying that people should leave carrier x and that they should get phone y because the other one sucks. If a carrier doesn't work for you, then switch. If you don't like this phone, then get that phone. There really is no need to try to push me into it or criticizing me for making the decisions I have made. It doesn't matter what company or what product it is, there is someone out there who has had a problem with it or them.

Overall having choices is good, competition is good. Competition is what helps make the next product better.

Sorry for the rant, just wanted to vent a little.

Well said, and I agree with you for the most part. I felt the same way until recently--I think the whole annoying Apple vs. Samsung patent wars really turned me off from Apple, because it just seemed to be a very anti-competitive strategy for a company that had been so innovative for so long. So if I have a bias, it's against Apple due to their business practices. But I still hope that they continue work on next generation tech, because you're absolutely right--competition is how tech and our experience of it gets better.

This.

From what I've seen, it usually starts from a positively-intentioned desire to discuss (and educate others in) the tech of the mobile industry. There are decided advantages and disadvantages to most of the tech (hardware and software) out there. However, as people try to incorporate personal situations and experiences (the whole "what's best for me might not be best for you" deal), conversation turns from chatting and discourse to chastising and disapproval.

People have a tendency to try and 'validate' their thoughts/opinions/conclusions by attempting to get others to adopt (or at least support) them.

You must be top young to remember the Mac/PC wars of the 90s. THAT got ugly.

Dude, you totally shouldn't be using an LG TV. You should only be buying Samsung TVs.

This happens with anything where people are passionate. Cars, beer, phones, hot tubs, boats, vacation places, stocks, news channels, politicians, google vs bing, siri vs google now, etc, etc.

This is not an exclusive behavior of the phone industry. This is true for every single aspect of life. You see that with voting, fashion, religion, etc.... You only notice it because your on this site. Go to a TV forum and you'll see the same behavior.

I know it isn't completely exclusive just seems to be the one that goes beyond the boards more than any other.

Exactly, you shouldn't be playing on that Playstation either, you gotta get the Wii U!

Absotively correct. Couldn't believe some of the crap I have read in the different hi-def Forums.

Coke! Pepsi! Coke! Pepsi!

Why not Sprite? Or 7-up? Jk lol

But I agree with many people before this post, there needs to be a healthy mix if innovation/competition to keep technology moving forward.

I only care what phones friends and family are using because no matter what they use I'm expected to be tech support. I try not to push anyone in any one direction but I let them know I'm most comfortable with android and it's.
