Why do people hate the Galaxy S5?

I must admit that no mobile internet device has allowed me to feel safe but I am very much content and more with my devices. I hope everyone at least feels the same.

For me, comfortable and content, yes! Safe....ehhh not so much, lol!

Most don't like the S5 because the rumors ended up not being true. The rumors raised expectations and then the announcement failed to meet the expectations people had for the device.

Me personally, I read the rumors, but chose not to have the rumors raise expectations for me. Rumors are just that and most of the time just aren't true, so I just let them go and waited until the official announcement.

I think I just wanted something markedly better than the S4 and while the S5 is better it's not as much better as I'd hoped. Samsung Mobile has no requirement to fulfill my expectations though, I'm just a consumer. The fault lies in my expectations, not their product.

I can't wait to give the S5 a test drive when it hit T-Mobile display shelves. I've seen the "official hands-on" Galaxy S5 video from Samsung Mobile and the smartphone does have a nice design quality - although it's not aluminum finish.

Furthermore, I expect Samsung to sell millions within the first couple of days.

Now I haven't exactly looked much into it, as I'm not a big fan of Samsung, but whats with all the hate?

A lot of people have posted some good responses. I'll throw in another one, which I don't necessarily agree with, but I see it a lot in the forums. Samsung has a huge marketing budget. They run ads all the time, and you can't really escape them because they're everywhere.

There is an impression that regular people (i.e. people who don't read tech websites) are somehow brainwashed into buying Samsung products. Since Samsung takes up a huge portion of the mobile market, there is less to go around for other companies.

Some people think companies other than Samsung would have done better if it weren't for Samsung's aggressive marketing. It's like Samsung's products don't "deserve" their sales. They just sell well because there are a lot of flashy ads.

That's an interesting perspective.

You hit the nail on the head. This is why no one in the Android market can touch them

Its always easier to hate on something than it is to point out the positives.

I would agree. Samsung, no matter what you think of it, has made Android a very popular choice for both smartphones and tablets.

Honestly, I think people just want to have a say in the design of smartphones. This could be an excellent opportunity for up-and-coming companies to make a mark in the mobile industry. All they need to do is listen to the people, find areas that are not adequately served by existing companies (like Samsung), and make a phone to meet those needs.

Its much more than this.

A lot of countries are dominated by Samsung (considering among Android OEMs) mainly because they covered many price points. They always cared very well about low end market.Nobody touched Samsung at low end except Nokia which was already heavily established.
Samsung captured lot of "Potential buyers" into their hands too easily.

They mimic Apple's strategy of how they pulled existing iPod Users into iPhone's world by saying that iPhone is an "iPod , Phone and Internet Communicator"......

Samsung's strategy is something like people will buy low end devices like teens , younger generations and tomorrow they move into high end phones like Note or S series because they are familiar with Samsung's software/skin etc.

Its something like "You get similar phone design and software design from top to bottom at every price point of Galaxy".

Grand , Note , Galaxy , Ace etc. all look pretty much same in looks and also software is ridiculously familiar and similar. When such users go out and see some other device , they suddenly feel alienated or different etc.

Just see how people opposed Windows 8 , lot of people still love start button etc. all that familiarity , So OEMs like Lenovo are putting start menu/button and selling laptops etc.

Another point where Samsung succeeds at high end is differentiation :
AMOLED screen , SD-slot , removable battery etc.

A person finds AMOLED much more attractive than LCD because of vibrant colors. He chooses Galaxy.

Yes , When I walk into a store (multi-brand or Samsung store) , I see atleast one Samsung guy who is ready with demo piece to show to people. They get some sort of commission for selling each Galaxy device.
It takes much more than Marketing to manage all these.

Samsung has definitely worked hard for their market share. I don't see HTC, Sony, or LG folks standing at their Best Buy displays ready to discuss their wares.

They really have! They took over the #1 position for TV and electronics manufacturer from Sony in the eyes and hearts of many consumers. Sony had such a strong foot hold too! My older cousin will STILL tell you that Sony is the best, lol!

One place where Samsung dropped ball is going with Active 3D technology , LG is getting really good with TVs imo , Their Passive 3D is much better and also their demo TV in CES had awesome software too.

I think LG will become very popular especially after plethora of Nexus devices , G series and TVs (not to forget that they also supply displays to Apple) but its very hard to beat Samsung though.
Only LG seems to be the closest competition to Samsung for me but they are still light years behind.

I agree LG is the closest competition to Samsung today. Their recent G series phones are pretty good.

I tend to prefer LG's offerings to Samsung's. The build quality and design seems better and UI seems lighter. I'm quite impressed with LG as of late, really.

I agree completely, Samsung could or should be focusing on different design language but honestly no matter what they do there will always be haters bashing them. The automotive press and fans of Cadillac did not care for the modern designs they went with years ago until the entire line up and refinements were in place then people changed their position. Problem is Samsung doesn't seem to listen to anyone and given their sales they see no reason why they should.

If sales tank they will look at the issues and work to resolve them, but if the sales continue to be super high as they have been they won't. Apple gets away with minor updates every other year and their loyal buyers don't seem to care. They claimed 7" tablets were DOA, until they made one, they claimed a phone over 4" is unnecessary, sure until they release one this fall.
