Why do people think tablets are just large smartphones?

I still don't see a reason for me to get a tablet. I have a smartphone and a laptop. I'm good.

I'm the same. Smartphone and Desktop Gaming PC at home.. I'm good to go.

Sent from my T-Mobile Note 3 using AC Forums.

A fair amount of tablets do actually have a phone app integrated into the OS. That is probably the compelling argument that it is an oversized phone.

You know.... I was 100% in that camp before I ended up picking up a Nexus 7. I had been thinking about getting a tablet for the Fam.... something my kids could use to pass the time away on a long trip when one didn't want to watch what was on the DVD.... plane rides... crap like that. My wife started using it and became quite attached to it. The form factor makes it equally capable and portable.... phone/tablet/laptop... all three fill three very different roles.

because they feel as if they dont need a tablet since they have a phone and/or a PC/laptop. If i had a laptop id probably pitch the tablet. way to much device duplication.. you know?

I rather use a laptop that can use those same functions and more.

Is rather schlep around a $200 tablet than a $1000 laptop. That Nexus 7 is an easy little sucker to carry around.

I paid around $600 for my HP Split X2 so I'm just fine using that. No need to spend an extra $200 for a device with limited use cases for me.

Perhaps.. .but the opinion that tablets don't have a place... well, that ship has long since sailed. The smaller form factor, price and utility is here to stay.... And I'm not just talking about people playing 2048 or watching Youtube videos of cats... restaurants, factory floors, hospitals, etc. Mobile tech, tablets in particular is getting HUGE in the workforce management industry. That Split X2 is a great device, but for a lot of applications, it isn't needed. Why buy a $600 hybrid laptop when you can by two or three tablets that accomplish the required task? It's all about productivity and cost. But that's a different topic for a different day.

Long story short... just because it might have a limited use for you doesn't mean that it doesn't have limitless uses for someone else.

That's what I have been saying, it's not for me. I don't see a use for a tablet. I rather use a laptop but that's my use case not anyone else's.

I call my Note 3 a Phablet device . Tablets are computers to me, just in a easier to use form factor but for serious computing stuff I eventually have to resort to my desktop PC or laptop .

I have a ViVo tab with a dock and a Nexus 7. I use them for different purposes but I like both tablets.

One thing I've noticed is that you're hard pressed to find people offering home screen shots of 7" tablets in landscape mode in "post your homescreen" threads. Lazy!

Tablets are oversized phones depending on the software. My note 3 for example can do anything a typical tablet would do. I think that's why people like phablets so much now. If you have one you may only need one full computer and that's it. My phone is pretty much my portable computer.

wait until you hit my age and using a 5" screen for extended periods has you feeling like you're looking at your surroundings through blurred glass for about 10 minutes lol

Quite!
(Although I have 3...)

My phone is pretty much my portable computer.

Especially with free Teamviewer installed on both (or all)!

I don't like it when people dismiss a tablet device that have phone call capability. For some reason they automatically think it's a foremost a phone with an oversized screen, instead of a tablet that have phone call capability. But it is also the fault of the manufacturer to not have good interface design at times.
