Why do so few people know what a Chromecast is? What if it has the Apple logo on it?

Why do so few people know what a Chromecast is?

If I stand in the middle of Time Square in New York City and ask
1000 random people, I'm willing to bet that less than 1 percent
will know what a Chromecast it.

On the other hand, if the Chromecast has the Apple logo on it,
thousands will be lining up overnight to buy one. :)

This could be due to Google seemingly relying is on word-of-mouth advertising whereas Apple would likely actively market the device.

Slapping a big piece of fruit on the back of anything means that most average people will know about it, that is due too in big part Apple's marketing prowess and the fact that most average people pay attention to the word Apple.

in the mean time, consumption of apples have gone down steadily over the last 5 years, according to the apple association.(the lobby group for U.S. apple growers) :D
