Android Central Question

I have an LG G6 running on Android version 9. When I get a text message, it typically drops down at the top of my screen if my phone screen is on. This is not my preference, but I can deal with it. Haven't found a way to turn it off. The real issue is that once that message has popped up, I can only get rid of it blocking my screen by going to it immediately or by swiping it away. Every direction of swipe (left, right, up) marks the message as read and deletes the notification icon at the top of my screen. So, I often forget there is a message to deal with and fail to answer people. I want to be able to get that popup off my screen but preserve the notification until I have time to answer it. I am worried that this is just a regular feature and impossible to get rid of, but wow it is bothersome. Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to Android Central! If mustang7757's suggestion doesn't work on the phone, then when you want to move the popup away, try swiping up, starting with your finger just below the banner (not on the banner). If you start with your finger on the banner, it might think you're trying to tap it and acknowledge it.

Yeah there's a couple of settings you play with there
