Why do we want Gingerbread?

When google owns the woorld they will sell you your soul back for one meellion dollars muhhhahaha
Seriously tho why would you want the improvements to stop?

95% of people don't know why they want something. They just want it because it's new.

Same goes for GB.

It's ridiculous.

My buddy has a DInc 2 and the GB update actually brought on a few minor bugs...But people still want it. Go figure.

Not at all, some of us want bug and security fixes. One thing that is important to remember is that Google only works on one code base at a time (well technically two now that we have Honeycomb, but it will be back to one with the launch of Ice Cream Sandwich). Once the new release happens the older releases are ignored.

For what its worth, I decided to root while waiting for the latest update, hoping to get even with my friends who at running gingerbread on their Android phones. Rooting was simple enough and loading GB based roms was too, however , battery life suffered miserably , the extended battery barely made it through a whole day of normal use.
Also I started getting random reboot to the extent I couldn't rely on the phone for an important call. So I decided to unrest and go back to square one. I received the new update almost immediately and I now have my wonderful Thunderbolt back! I'm back on the original battery and other than a hiccup with Navigation initially , flawless operation. So , let t hem figure out all of the bugs, I'm happy with froyo!

One thing i see that hasn't been mentioned/talked about is the addition to be able to nativly use VOIP on gingerbread. You can add your own sip account and have it setup to make calls then via your data vs using your carrier minutes. Easy to setup and use, just like how google likes things setup for the end user.

I believe the real answer is Zebra Cakes. ftw.

Zebra Cakes... of DOOM!!!

Besides, Google has been testing their Global Domination update for a while now on the Motorola Droid... ever seen someone's Droid just start doing a bunch of things by itself? Opens up email of SMS and start typing a message to someone, or when you try to open up the web browser it calls voicemail?

I could care less about GB being released because im on CM7...however...with an official GB release comes better more stable GB ROMs from the wonderful dev community!

GB on most devices is easily an upgrade... however, with Sense UI being such an overlay, there really isn't that much different. I have an EVO/Sprint for work and have upgraded to GB and notice absolutely no difference in the appearance or the functionality of the phone.

However, on a Moto device - moving from Froyo to GB (as on the DX), the GB upgrade proves to be a welcomed enhancement.

I am happy with the TB as it is - if GB comes along - great - if not, since the last update, I am FINALLY running bugproof! :)

Yep I noticed the same thing on my Droid Pro. Gingerbread turned Crappy MotoBlur to Not-That-Bad Moto Blur.

There is such a thing as "not that bad" MotoBLUR? Could have fooled me... (I have never been a MotoBLUR fan)

I think the VoIP point brought up earlier would be awesome....the rest of the comments about performance sound like the placebo effect...

Yes it is not that bad. I still dont really care for it (Launcher Pro is my friend) but it's not as bad as it used to be and has gotten a LOT better! Anyone remember the Motoblur that was used on the Android 1.5/1.6 era devices? *shudder*
