Why does a whitespace or nonsense message save as a draft?

Android Central Question

In my Samsung Galaxy S8, if you have a blank or tab or new line and nothing else in a message, the message app automatically saves it as a draft message. Same if you accidentally type random keys like "Mmm". Suggestion: Do not save whitespace and prompt the user to save if the app cannot parse the text in the message into something grammatical.

To whom are you suggesting this?

So far as I can see, a message is a message. Conceivably, ‘mmm’ might be the message that someone wishes to send, or part of it. How then could they save it as draft?
