Why does Android M update get stuck at "Android upgrading, starting apps"?

I am using asus zenfone 2 laser. My phone started upgrading firmware itself and after that got stuck on "Android upgrading, starting apps" for upto 12 hours. It has happened before twice. Why does it happen? And how can i get my phone's firmware to upgrade without getting stuck?
PS. I may have slow internet speed.

Internet instability could be the issue. I'm not at all familiar with the Zenfone, but if it were me, and my internet was the culprit, I would find a friends internet with better speed and reliability, or as I've done with my samsung, go to your dealer, for example, Samsung has Sales/Help counters in most Bestbuy's. So, when I've had an issue getting an update in the past, i've brought it to them, for free, and they flashed the new update.
