Why does downloading a new notification tone stop the sound on my S7

What happens to my messaging sound when I try to use a notification sound from Zedge ?
Verizon tech coach says all of the settings are correct, but it still does not make a sound. It vibrates only.

Welcome to Android Central! Is the custom tone saved to Internal Storage or the SD card?

It sounds like you're using the actual Zedge app. It's not necessary to use the app -- you can try downloading the notification tone directly from the zedge.net website, then moving that file to the /Notifications directory using any file manager app.
