Why does Google Maps Suck Now?

Does compass mode (map orients automatically so direction you are going is in front of you) (aka follow me mode or navigate without destination mode.) Work correctly in anyone's note 3? While driving hit icon on map on lower right hand corner. It turns blue. Now hit the blue icon and it remains blue but changes to a different icon. This shows you are in compass mode. Some on Google forums claim it works fine but they all had Nexus phones. They said my phone compass is no good and I should exchange phone. I think all note 3 have this issue. Can someone verify? I'm using maps 7.5 but it doesn't work in any version of 7. 8 have occasionally got it to work for 10 or 20 minutes that then screen rotates out of position for no reason. Thanks for your help.

If you like to use your contacts for the to in navigation, download an app called "Nav Launcher". Yes, the new version truly sucks.

At this point I am solely interested in verifying if compass mode within maps works reliably on anyone's note 3.

A lot of research seems to reveal the compass and gyroscope firmware on our note 3 is the source of the problem in Google maps compass mode. Of course had they stuck to using gps to determine direction rather than switching to the 0 hone magnetic detector the issue would be moot.

I'm still very interested in whether compass mode in Google maps works on your note 3 so please check in.

The older nav had more route options, avoid highways and toll roads and a bunch of other stuff

This maps has that as well.

Mine just freezes. I get lost cuz ill make a turn it told me to do and the arrow stops. Il have perfect signal at the time.

That has happened to me a few times as well...thought maybe it was a poor connection but always have at least 2 bars at all times.

Ah, yes. Traffic layer was replaced with "Route preview" which turns out to be better because it can be viewed in "North Up" view.

I always want traffic layer. That is why I prefer compass mode to navigation mode. Now Im forced to use Inrix.

No, I mean driving with a note 3 not the LG escape.

Well I don't have the n3 but my Sis does and I use it on occasion and hers works also seeing as she uses it for work.

Clearly this problem is never getting fixed...... lame!

I agree. I've spent some time in the official google maps forum. The moderator defies all logic and simply said it works fine. Many, many posters explain it doesn't but he just replies it works fine on his nexus. If you get at all insistent or pushy they threaten you. They won't allow you to refresh the issue by starting a new thread. The old thread isn't even called compass mode. It is called navigation without destination. The casual peruser may not even know what that is about. Google would rather avoid than address the issue. They basically tell you their developers ignore their forum and only look at complaints posted from within google maps app. It's hopeless.

I don't mean to be rude but when you say it works if you are referring to compass mode in a car I don't believe you.

In compass mode road should always be in front of you (vertical) as in navigation mode. please note the compass mode icon on lower right. please note road is horizontal. you may get compass mode to work for 10 minutes but drive some distance in that mode and orientation of maps will not be correct.

Google Maps was getting to the point where it no longer worked on my phone.

After trying many different things, I just did a factory reset of my phone and now it works like a charm.
