Why does it appear the OS and all apps quickly close and re-open after resetting app preferences?

Hello. I have a Note 4 running 6.0.1. I reset my app preferences the other day - I didn't necessarily have to, but I had a couple of apps that were not opening they way I wanted, so I used this as an easy way to fix the issue. That issue was fixed. However, since then all apps will suddenly close and reopen. I won't be doing anything in particular and suddenly is closes and reopens where I left off. Happens even when I'm just on my home screen (hopefully described this well enough). Happened twice while typing this question. The only thing I can think of is that something did not reset properly when I reset the app preferences. Thoughts and/or recommendations?
