Why does my apps drawer not allow me to drag and drop icon short cuts?

[Android Central Question]

My mom has a galaxy 5s android phone and she somehow changed her app drawer so it shows up as an alphabetical list rather than app icons and now she cannot move apps to her home screen as short cuts. She thinks she changed a setting on the phone but can't remember what she did and we cannot figure out how to undo it so she can drag and drop icon short cuts to her home screen. She always has to launch her apps by opening them from the app drawer, please help.

Welcome to the forums. Do you have three dots top right of the app drawer? If so, tap to open the menu, select 'view as' and see what options are available.

It does not have the 3 dots...that was the first thing I looked for.

Just in case, make sure that easy mode is not enabled.
