dropped phone and it turned itself off turned it back on and it was stuck on the black screen that says Samsung galaxy s3

Welcome.

Remove and replace the battery, give it a good long charge, then try it again with fingers crossed. Try also booting into Recovery Mode and select Reboot from there.
But of course the impact may have done damage.
