Why does my HTC M8 restart often?

The phone thinks that the powerbutton is pressed and I get the message "Press power button and volume down button to restart" and the phone restarts else it takes a screenshot of the screen. The phone restarts when I'm on call or when I'm using the phone. The display turns on and off without me pressing the power button. Even a slight touch on the button turns on the display. I was wondering if anyone else found a solution for the same problem? My phone is out of the warranty period. I got it when it was released and its been more than a year. I really don't know what to do. Help me please.

Is your phones power button broken or is it a software flaw?

I called the customer care, they're asking me to visit the service centre.

I had this problem and eventually my power button died. I got the phone replaced under warranty. One major gripe of the m8 is the poor quality power button. It doesn't feel solid at all and I'm scared it will happen again. So I avoid pressing it. I use tap to wake to turn the screen on. I've installed a screen off and lock app which installs a button on the home screen to turn the screen off. I have also installed a phone case that covers the power button to stop pocket lint and dust from going in the gaps around the power button.

My phone is out of warranty.
